HELLO AND WELCOME TO DELTA GAMMA

Letter from our President, Barb Haag-Heitman, PhD, RN, PHCNS-BC

Delta Gamma Recent Developments
December 2008

Dear Delta Gamma Members,

I became your Chapter President this past June during our leadership transition meeting. Since that time, the Delta Gamma Board and Committee members revisited and updated our Delta Gamma strategic plan to be current and consistent with Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). The theme of STTI President Carol Huston, set forth in her presidential call, is Leading Globally and builds upon several of the key elements and strategic directions suggested previously in Vision 2020. For more on Vision 2020 please visit the STTI website by following this link:

Delta Gamma will continue to support and recognize members' scholarship and excellence in nursing practices with activities such as local programming, research and leadership awards and recognition, and induction of new members. The following strategic directions are in addition to these activities. We need your participation to help achieve Delta Gamma goals in 5 strategic areas. Please review each area and be prepared to respond to our call for action that you will receive via email.

KNOWLEDGE
The Program Committee is proposing that our local joint chapter meeting in Spring 2009 focus on issues of community emergency preparedness and pandemic issues. We recognize that many organizations are already addressing these issues — however a gap exists in an overall coordinated community of nursing approach. Watch for more information on this as spring approaches.

LEADERSHIP
This year we are exploring new ways to engage our members by enhancing our website. A new enhancement already in place allows members access to audio files from our Awards and Hall of Fame dinner program on October 8, 2008. Follow this link to hear from Rosemarie Matheus, RN, MSN, Hall of Fame Award recipient and Cathy Rick, RN, CNAA, FACHE — Outstanding Nurse Scholar: <http://www.deltagammastti.org/photo_album.html>

Delta Gamma also sponsored attendance of Mary Darling (Delta Gamma Treasurer) and Mary Polchert (Delta Gamma Leading Edge Editor/Web Site Liaison) to the STTI Leadership Academy in October 2008. For more information on the leadership academy please follow this link:

SERVICE
We plan continued support of the Marquette Neighborhood Health Center's (MNHC) through several book drives to help them achieve their goal that each child attending the clinic receive an age and culturally appropriate book to take home to enhance literacy in our community. The MNHC is a nurse managed health center under the auspices of the Marquette College of Nursing and provides community access to healthcare services and educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate level nursing students. Please follow the link provided to learn more:

Watch your email for announcements and ways to contribute!

COMMUNITIES
Delta Gamma will continue support for Project BEYOND (Building Ethnic Youth Opportunities for Nursing Diversity) grant through the Marquette University College of Nursing. Community speakers and mentors are needed. Watch your email and the web site for an invitation to participate!

SUSTAINABILITY
Enhancement of our web site and electronic communication for member engagement are already underway. We are also working on on-line program registration and opportunities for on-line contributions.

NEXT STEPS
The Board will be meeting in January to review our progress and action steps towards these goals. Watch your email and check the web site for updates.

Please contact me or any member of the Delta Gamma Board with any questions or comments. Contact information is available by following this link:
