Upcoming Meeting on Proposal to Start a Joint Chapter with Alverno College

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

I am writing to you as your chapter President to let you know that the Delta Gamma Board of Directors is having discussions with nursing leaders at Alverno College about the possibility of creating a joint STTI Delta Gamma At Large Chapter. Currently Alverno College does not have a STTI chapter.
I had initial discussions with the Dean of Marquette School of Nursing – Dr. Margaret Callahan and the Dean of Alverno College School of Nursing – Pat Schroeder, RN, MSN in August. Both Deans are active and invested members of our Delta Gamma chapter. There seemed to be a goodness of fit between the two schools of nursing. Marquette and Alverno are both Catholic universities with values of excellence, service, leadership and faith. Additionally, both Colleges of Nursing are held in high esteem and considered leaders in nursing field in the Milwaukee community and well beyond.
I believe that becoming a joint chapter with Alverno can help increase our membership numbers and make our educational offerings and events more successful – leading to our chapter’s sustainability in the future. Joining together to continue the mission of Sigma Theta Tau International to lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people seems practical.
Following the meeting with the Deans, I contacted STTI headquarters for guidance on the process of pursing a joint chapter. Next I presented the proposal to the Delta Gamma Board and Committee Members at our August 18th meeting and they were supportive. The general nursing faculty at Marquette also verbally supported this idea when presented by Diane Dressler, RN, MSN – Delta Gamma Faculty Counselor and Dean Callahan at a faculty meeting in September.
For this initiative to advance, I need the support of the Delta Gamma membership. An open Delta Gamma Board Meeting to address issues related to this joint venture is scheduled for December 8 from 4-5:30 in the Marquette Memorial Union Room 254. A formal membership vote for approval will be taken at this meeting.
